@JazzHandMeDowns @jay_schiavone Have you read Coddling of the American Mind Excellent book on how, through good intentions we hurt our children by not allowing them fail and learn from it, among other things. | @MichaelSmithLL @antoniogm That book is great | A fascinating read. First chapter talks about iGen (born after 1995) and the need for emotional safety described as “one should be safe not just from car accidents and sexual assault but from people who disagree with you.”Not sure if accurate but they got me interested to read on | A wonderful book, but the response to the damage that we have done to children over the last two years is not that they are coddled. Especially not when it is coming in response to policies that impact their emotional development. | Dives into the new problem on college campuses, Safetyism. | Highlights the need to continue to have such discussions about sensitive topics instead of ignoring them for the sake of comfort. | Just finished The Coddling of the American mind by @glukianoff Greg Lukianoff and Jonathan Haidt. Insightful. Straight forward and very helpful. A book that not only correctly identifies what ails us but also gives practical steps to cure. MUST READ | My best books of 2019 @JonathanTaplin Move Fast & Break Things @JonHaidt Coddling of the American Mind @thejoelstein Defense of Elitism @maryCyPsy Cyber Effect @MikeIsaac Super Pumped | The Coddling of the American Mind by Greg Lukianoff and Jonathan Haidt, audiobook read by @JonHaidt. Not sure if this is the right fit?

Consider Outliers by Malcolm Gladwell. Recommended by 31 sources.

Outliers reads like a series of captivating magazine profiles, each unpacking a hidden factor behind extraordinary success. Gladwell’s storytelling makes complex social science accessible, but the book relies on memorable anecdotes rather than offering systematic analysis. The book explores the idea that individual brilliance rarely stands alone; success often hinges on birth dates, cultural legacies, and the 10,000-hour rule. While the narratives are strong, the book overgeneralizes from handpicked examples, leaving skeptical readers questioning the conclusions. It’s most useful as a conversation starter about luck and timing—annoying if you want a rigorous academic treatise or a how-to guide for your own life.
